Horsemanship Clinic with Rick Benson--Saturday, September 13th

What time does it start and end?

9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Who can attend?

Anyone 18 yrs. old or older who wants to improve their riding skills is welcome to register. We will split into dfferent classes based upon riding skill level.

How much does it cost?

$200 to participate (includes lunch and use of ranch horses)*
$35 to audit/watch (includes lunch)*

*dinner sign-up available for additional $12

Can I bring my own horse?

Yes, you can, but you do not have to. Even if you do bring your own horse, you will also have the opportunity to ride some of the ranch horses to help you understand the feel and end goal of what the instructor is teaching you.

What will be covered?

We will be covering the fundamentals for both horse and rider of every skill level. If you are a beginner, you will gain confidence by learning correct hand, seat, and leg position and cues to control and enjoy your horse in any situation you find yourself in. If you are intermediate or advanced, you will be working on perfecting your skills while teaching your horse body control to perfect maneuvers such as circles, spins, stops, and lead changes. Though you may think of these as reining maneuvers, they are the fundamentals that will help you and your horse no matter what riding discipline you are involved in. Good horsemanship will help you succeed in any competition or task you ask of your horse.

What is Rick's background?

Rick spent about the first half of his life in California, which at the time was the hotbed of the best trainers in many of the western disciples. He watched and learned and eventually started his own training stable. Throughout his life, he has managed breeding and training at different ranches. He has also worked at numerous camps, starting and running horsemanship programs where he has taught youth and adults for over fifty years. His son, Tye, has gone on to become a professional cow horse and cutting horse trainer, still using the fundamentals that Rick taught him as a teenager.
